Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
I work with adults and adolescents who are struggling with the challenges of daily life or who feel weighed down by issues of the past. My clients are often people who struggle with anxiety, depression, identity issues, grief, stress, or relationship issues. My ideal client is ready for change, or contemplating what the first steps of change look like. I practice exclusively through teletherapy sessions, and require clients to have reliable and consistent access to internet services. I offer a safe space for BIPOC, women, LGBTQIA+/trans/poly, neurodivergent, and other diverse communities. I am a very direct person, known for my honesty and “cut-to-the-chase” attitude. Over my years of practice, I have become known for my strength in work with teenagers and young adults, who have described me as “relatable” and “trusted.” I also enjoy helping adults work through life transitions and exploring issues of self identity and purpose. I believe strongly in the validation of clients’ feelings and experiences, to help remove stigma and shame. I believe that with support, clients can be empowered to make difficult decisions and take charge of their own growth.
Life can feel overwhelming when you’re trying to balance responsibilities, relationships, work, and expectations while also managing anxiety, stress, or unresolved trauma. You may appear to be holding it all together on the outside while struggling internally with burnout, overthinking, self-pressure, or feeling emotionally stuck. I specialize in helping clients process, heal, and grow through life transitions, anxiety, and trauma in a supportive and nonjudgmental space. I utilize evidence-based approaches including EMDR, CBT, DBT, and ACT to help clients move beyond survival mode toward greater clarity, balance, confidence, and emotional relief. I believe therapy works best when you feel safe, respected, and actively involved in the process, so I take a collaborative and personalized approach focused on building insight, strengthening coping skills, and helping you create a life that feels more manageable and fulfilling.

You struggle to connect with your authentic self as you navigate life’s transitions and their impact on your identity and relationships. You notice yourself falling into the same patterns that leave you feeling even more disconnected and overwhelmed. Together, we will explore the stories that shape your inner world. I enjoy using a person-centered therapeutic approach that incorporates theories and interventions from Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. I have been practicing for 15 years and I love what I do. Mental health is just as important as physical health. Our mind, body, and soul all work together to create who we are. It is important that we work to get each of these aspects of our lives healthy. My therapy approach is eclectic style. I truly believe that each individual has unique needs that I want to ensure I meet. I have a great deal of experience in working with college students. I specialize in treating anxiety, adjustment, and life stressor issues, trauma, depression, family dynamics, anger management, ADHD, developmental issues, self-esteem, issues children and adolescents face, and more. My approach I utilize an eclectic style of therapy to meet each individual's needs. My primary approaches to therapy are CBT, Client-Centered, Solution Focused, Positive Psychology, TF-CBT, and Play Therapy. My focus I have experience in working with children, adolescents, adults and families. I enjoy working with all ages. My communication style My therapeutic environment and communication are open, non-confrontational, and judgment-free. I believe therapy is a collaborative process. My journey to mental healthcare When I was in high school, I took a Psychology class and fell in love with learning about the mind and how it works. I have always had a passion for helping others, and immediately knew that therapy was what I wanted to choose as a career. It has been the best decision I have made. My goals for you When working with clients on setting goals, I encourage them to create their own goals. I will provide input as well, and help them navigate this. I want their goals to be realistic and attainable. I want my clients to understand that therapy is their space and time to create their own goals. My first session with you In the first session I will inquire with clients what their goals are and what brings them into therapy. I will complete a biopsychosocial assessment with them and gather information to help me best meet their needs. I will introduce myself and my therapeutic approach, and allow for any questions they have.

Hi, I’m Lyndsey, a therapist, who works with students experiencing anxiety, stress and burnout, relationship struggles, identity questions, or just feeling stuck. College can be so overwhelming—balancing classes, friendships, family expectations, work, and figuring out who you are can feel heavy and defeating. I offer a nonjudgmental, collaborative space where you can explore what’s on your mind, develop healthy coping strategies, and reconnect with your sense of purpose. My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and grounded. I use a blend of talk therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Therapy (DBT), mindfulness and self compassion practices. Whether you're feeling lost, burnt out, or just need someone to talk to who gets it, I’m here to help you feel heard and supported. You don’t have to have it all figured out—let’s work on it together.
I enjoy working with young adults, assisting them with the transition to college and/or adulthood. I have a lot of experience assisting with ADHD and executive function weaknesses. I enjoy helping adults manage stress, anxiety and depression. I am trained in EMDR (www.emdr.com) and use this approach to help bring healing from traumatic events. I have a gentle but direct approach in working with my clients and have an interactive/relational style.
My clients often struggle with challenges in their relationship’s whether they be romantic, friendly, or family relationships. My clients worry about abandonment, often finding issues from their past show up and negatively affect their relationships. Some feel they may be in a codependent relationship but not sure. Our work together will help you understand how past pain affects present relationships. Then we will work at unpacking that baggage, organize it, and put it away in a safe place. Although it may never truly go away, you can confront it in a way that allows you to move forward and find happiness. My goal is to get to know you and the issues that bring you to counseling. We will work together to help you establish a baseline of calm, good self-care, and coping skills. This will help you feel safe and secure before we dive into unpacking the things that are causing you pain. Together we will set goals, to help you realize all of your unique strengths, create healthy boundaries, and self-esteem to build a happier, healthier life, I look forward to working with you.

Do you ever find yourself overwhelmed by the challenges and circumstances in your life? Have you experienced feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety, sadness, or a lack of support when you needed someone to confide in? I understand these struggles, and I want you to know that it's perfectly okay to not be okay. I'm here to provide you with the tools and strategies you need to break free from negative thought patterns and self-defeating behaviors. Similar to regular physical check-ups, therapy serves as a preventive measure, equipping you with effective strategies to navigate moments of chaos, uncertainty, and everyday life. Together let's transform emotions, behaviors, and thought patterns for your desired outcomes. I support young adults, college students, and adults particularly those from BIPOC communities, facing depression, anxiety, and life transitions. My aim is to empower you, raise your self-awareness, and break down the barriers of mental health stigma. The first step is daunting yet essential. Therapy isn't weakness; it shows strength and courage to seek support. My priority is a nonjudgmental, safe space where you can freely express yourself. Remember, progress begins with putting one foot in front of the other, and soon enough, you'll be walking towards a brighter future.

I want therapy to be a positive and rewarding experience for you, and I will do my best to help you feel welcome. During our first sessions, I will likely focus on going over the basic policies and expectations, answering questions, getting to know you better, and learning how I can best support you in this chapter of your life.
