Mental health is the foundation of everything: our health, happiness, success, and sense of community. As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, I use evidence based treatments and a holistic approach to help support individuals navigating mental health challenges. My education at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) and my 6 years of practice at the Center for Hope and Health have provided invaluable experience and specialized training using CBT interventions to treat anxiety, depression, OCD, eating disorders, and trauma-stressor related disorders. I am trained in a variety of evidence based models including Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Eating Disorders, and Prolonged Exposure for PTSD, which enhances my ability to provide targeted interventions for clients. I am committed to providing an empathetic and warm approach to therapy coupled with evidence based techniques in order to create a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore their thoughts and feelings, build resilience, and to heal. I look forward to connecting with you!
It’s nice to meet you! I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I graduated from West Chester University with my bachelor’s degree in social work in 2016 and my master’s degree in social work in 2019. I’ve provided care in behavioral health as a mobile therapist helping individuals, families, children, and adolescents to treat Autism, ADHD, ODD, depression, and anxiety. Currently, I work full-time in intensive autistic support and transition age (18-21) classrooms supporting case management, crisis intervention, post-21 planning, and counseling. I enjoy working with people from all walks of life; to learn where you’ve been, where you currently are, and where you want to go. I uniquely and compassionately use cognitive behavioral therapy, narrative therapy, and behavioral therapy to help you make the changes you want in your life. Together we’ll use a solution-focused approach in a safe, non-judgmental space to create your goals and to support you in accomplishing them!
My focus is to form caring and supportive relationships that are solution focused and trauma informed. I provide individual therapy and assessments. I utilize client centered modalities in the service of providing a safe environment in which clients can better understand themselves and their relationships in order to foster growth and success. My clinical experience includes residential treatment and public and private school settings. Schachner Associates is unique because we offer the intimate atmosphere of a small private practice with clinicians from multiple backgrounds and specialties.

Many of my clients are making exciting but often daunting transitions -- either from Jr High to High School, High School to College, or whatever comes next. Change is so often viewed with anxiety and negativity. Yet, change is happening all around us every day. How can we make change a positive experience in our lives? How can we choose to change something that is not working? How can we learn and grow from a challenging experience? As a counselor, I believe my job is to create a space where clients can explore these and other topics, in a way that ultimately positively impacts their day to day lives. I have 10+ years of professional experience working with adolescents and adults in outreach and community based organizations. I have a client centered, strengths-based approach to my work that integrates Positive Psychology and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I believe that it is critical that the client takes an active role in the counseling process. My clients face a range of life’s challenges: depression, anxiety, peer conflict, communication, transition to college/work, enhancing self-awareness, relationship/family dynamics (separation/divorce), grief, and autism or attention deficit/executive functioning challenges. I work primarily with young adults and their families, adults, parents and couples.
My orientation to psychology integrates interpersonal, psychodynamic, and somatic/mindfulness approaches, each looking at different aspects of the relationship of humans to the world around us. My focus on connectivity and context—the whole picture of someone’s life—forms the basis of my practice and treatment. I also believe that each person is the author and expert of their lives, so I strive to meet people where they are and focus on their needs in that moment in time. Because our bodies (neurology, muscles, fascia, biorhythms, etc) are not separate from our minds, I also utilize trauma-informed somatic and mindfulness-based interventions where appropriate. I treat: anxiety and depression; grief and loss; trauma, PTSD, and complex PTSD; survivors of narcissistic relationships; women’s issues; end-of-life issues; life transitions; sexual and relationship wellbeing (kink- and consensual nonmonogamy-aware); LGBTQIA+; substance use disorders and recovery; ecological and sociological distress; acculturation issues; religion and spirituality issues Other interventions used: art therapies; nature-based/ecotherapies, dream work/image rehearsal therapy; mindfulness and somatic therapies
Hello there, Feeling stuck? Feeling stressed out about all the things that are competing for your attention? Wanting to change your relationship with yourself, so you can spread your wings and soar? I'm Stefan (he/him) and I want to be there on your journey. Starting therapy can feel scary, even if you've been in therapy before! To lower that intensity a bit, I want you to give you an idea of how I show up to sessions: - I get to know you - your family, friends, hobbies, shows, loves, fears, passions. - I celebrate and hype you up when you do the hard thing. - I ask questions to get you curious about patterns in your life, and point out when you might not be aware of them. - I offer compassion when your mind creates judgments about yourself. - I welcome and ask for feedback, knowing some things will land and others will not. - I laugh with you and value humor. - I tear up when you feel hurt or uncover a tender spot (while also holding space for you to feel). - I'll tell you I'm proud of you. - I nerd out about mental health, skills, approaches, and explain concepts in a way you'll understand. - I slow down and speed up based on your cues, and I give you choice in how we go about sessions. - I'm always working on our relationship, so there's trust and security when we get to difficult things. - I acknowledge the bigger systems of oppression that affect your life and lives of your loved ones. - I'm active and dynamic in sessions - sometimes asking questions, leading an activity, listening and reflecting, interrupting to highlight something you said, and synthesizing information and summarizing it back to you. All of this "I" is the effort I put into helping you get to "you": what you want, what you care about, your goals, dreams, your emotions, stressors, internal talk, and who you want to become and how you want to show up in life. Specialties: queer and trans identities and lived experiences, anxiety and depression, perfectionism, substance use, navigating family dynamics, healing trauma, couples and relationship work, career discernment Approaches: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR; trauma approach), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method (for relationship work), mindfulness and somatic interventions I'm an associate counselor, seeing clients through telehealth in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and California. Whether you’re struggling with feeling overwhelmed and anxious, or whether you’re needing a space to explore your inner world, I recognize that taking the step toward change is a brave one—and I’m so glad you’re here. I specialize in therapy for childfree individuals, highly sensitive people, LGBTQ+ folx and their families, women recovering from narcissistic abuse, people who are no or low contact with family, and equestrians. I have over 20 years of experience specializing in treating women who have problems with their moods and difficulty managing emotions. Formally trained in Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Gestalt Therapy, I blend these approaches with warmth, compassion and a genuine desire to understand the experience of my clients, helping them feel empowered to overcome personal obstacles and move forward to a happier, healthier life. Hello! I’m a Harvard-trained, board-certified general adult psychiatrist, based in Pittsburgh. My practice focuses on psychotherapy, and behavioral treatments. I also offer evidence-based behavioral treatment for insomnia. I see adults with with anxiety, depression, panic disorder, insomnia, and with most common mental health problems. Therapists who are warm, empathic, humble, committed to honing their skills, and who make effective positive working relationships with their patients, tend to be most effective. To paraphrase the psychotherapy scholar Leigh McCullough, a therapist should aim to do the most good, in the shortest time, with the least stress for the patient. I believe this is what it means to be patient-centered. I'm accepting new patients for telehealth visits throughout Pennsylvania, or for in-person visits at my office in Shadyside (in Pittsburgh). I accept private pay, and, through the Headway app, selected health insurances (including Aetna & Cigna).

The pandemic pushed many of us to take a step back from our lives and reflect. Once I realized I would be teaching and providing counseling online from home, it was important to me to create a physical space that provided the comfort I needed to be a support to my students and clients. As a nature lover, I set up my new home office with my desk facing my back yard. I began to notice all of the birds that frequented my yard and put up bird feeders to lure my backyard friends closer to my view. I quickly began to realize how much I enjoy watching the birds; not only are they beautiful, they each seem to have their own unique personality and behavior. Each day, I spend time watching the "regulars" - the house finches, goldfinches, and cardinals - happily chirp as they feast on the seed in the feeders. I delight in periodic visits from mourning doves, downy woodpeckers, mockingbirds, and wrens. These backyard birds have given me the opportunity to slow down and appreciate the here-and-now, noticing with intent sights, sounds, and feelings. The introspection I have done has led me to discover my desire to broaden the ways in which I support the wellness of others; Songbird Wellness was born out of this aspiration. My mission through Songbird Wellness is to improve the wellness of others via psychotherapy, group support and counseling, and education. As each bird finds its own way, I am committed to helping you navigate your flight to wellness, in whatever way that journey takes shape.

www.shephardassociates.com https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/shephard-associates-llc-boalsburg-pa/1098197 Prior to becoming a therapist, I was the head women's gymnastics coach at Penn State University. This experience informs my practice with students. I have helped athletes through every possible problem students can encounter. I use a trauma informed lens, since we all experience trauma, and that trauma, sometimes informs our reality and our core beliefs. I use a psychodynamic approach, and help individuals understand why they believe and act the way they do.
