Therapists for college students near Pittsburgh, PA
I founded my practice to create a space for people to feel heard, seen, and to create positive change in their lives. I want mental health care to feel welcoming, accessible, and like a safe holding space to sort it all out. I truly believe we are all out here doing our best, and that every person deserves an opportunity to heal and grow from adversity. We are all flawed works in progress, and that’s perfectly okay. I have had the opportunity to live this; and know what it’s like to be in the other seat. I’m so grateful for the healers in my life (shout out to Rary and Rena!), and find great purpose and privilege in being able to do that for others. I guide clients by fostering space for exploration and curiosity while also integrating actionable practical tools. I specialize in helping people process their trauma, get relief from anxiety and depression, understand and set boundaries, and improve relationship functioning. My practice is LGBTQIA+ affirming, strengths-based, and empathic. I am trained in evidenced based interventions that offer highly effective relief. Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) offers Trauma/PTSD treatment in 7-12 sessions. The Gottman Method is an extensively researched backed methodology for treating couples. My goal is to deepen the understanding between couples and provide blueprints for success to handle conflicts. Inference-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT) is a treatment modality for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Please don't hesitate to reach out for a free 15 minute consultation.
I am a holistic psychotherapist with over 20 years experience. I aim to help you feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin. My professional and personal journey have led me to blend Western Psychology and Eastern Philosophy, mindfulness, compassion, breath and bodywork, neurobiology, mind-body techniques, and the creative healing arts when appropriate.
Angelique work stems from a social justice lens; putting our lives into the context of society, for better or worse. She is LGBTQIA+ and gender-affirming. She believes that multicultural awareness is a must rather than an afterthought. While starting therapy can seem intimidating or daunting, Angelique wants you to know that you always deserve a seat in the therapy room or video call. She specializes in working with clients who are new to therapy by creating a safe space free from judgment. She aims to help clients uncover the strengths they already possess. She often helps clients explore their intersecting identities and navigate life's complications: life transitions, new identities, and different understandings of the world or ourselves. Together, you and Angelique will explore which therapeutic approaches are the best fit for you. She utilizes a strengths-based approach, regularly drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Relational-Cultural Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). She strongly believes that whether a problem is new or old, there is always an opportunity for growth and a new perspective.

I believe that at some point in life, everybody needs somebody. None of us are immune to hardship and distress. Really, it is not a matter of "if" but "when." Even though there are natural ebbs and flows, sometimes we need for someone to hear us, hold our pain, validate our experience and model a new way of coping with patterns of thinking and behavior that keep us stuck. For that reason, my passion is to aide in a client’s journey towards self-fulfillment. Through my clinical work, I am committed to supporting and empowering clients in times of distress through warmth, compassion, and challenging them to discover their true selves. I use a variety of systems that takes an integrative approach to help clients develop strategies for generalized anxiety, social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic, phobias, separation anxiety, PANS/PANDAS, tics, hair pulling, skin picking, and trauma. Additionally, I have experience working with selective mutism, survivors of violent and non-violent crimes, and first responder’s mental health.
Hi, I’m Marlena. Being a college student can feel like a nonstop mix of pressure, expectations, and “why am I like this?” moments. I graduated with a bachelor’s degree of psychology, then went on to obtain a Master’s degree of social work and appropriate licensure. I work primarily with adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck or burned out- especially those who are used to being the “strong one” for everyone else. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship stress, or the quiet exhaustion that comes from constantly holding it together. I provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can slow down, gain clarity, and build practical tools that actually fit your life. My approach is collaborative and grounded in evidence-based practices, while still honoring your lived experience. *** I am offering options for both in-person and teletherapy sessions *** I am a licensed psychologist currently in private practice. Prior to private practice, I worked in college counseling settings, a center for the treatment of substance use disorders, and at the Center for Psychotherapy Research at The University of Pennsylvania. As a result of these experiences, I work well with clients with a wide range of concerns and particularly like working with college students. I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel free to share whatever is concerning you and start working towards living a more fulfilling life. My approach to therapy is collaborative. We can work together to explore your needs and goals for treatment. Rather than using a one-size fits all approach, I use an integrative approach to treatment, incorporating several theoretical perspectives and techniques to meet your unique needs. My work is informed by psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) therapies. I work with individuals, who are struggling with a variety issues, including: • Anxiety • Depression • Relationship Problems • Life Transitions • Social Anxiety • Adjustment Difficulties • Substance Abuse • Trauma • ADHD • Chronic Pain • OCD • Low Self-esteem • Loneliness • Anger Issues • Infertility • Divorce • Life Coaching • Sports Performance Whatever is troubling you, I am available to discuss treatment options and can work with you to clarify and address your concerns. If I do not feel that my services would be helpful, I can offer referral information for another professional who might better meet your needs.

*Due to the current Covid-19 crises, my practice is set up to see patients thru video conference calling which is HIPPA compliant for privacy. I believe that individual therapy is the bedrock of mental health change especially for personal issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship self esteem and emotional problems of living. Counseling with your therapist needs to be collaborative where clients sort out thoughts and feelings in order to get a better understanding of who they are. Counseling is completely different from person to person. One client may want more advice or suggestions. Another might want mostly to vent and to be heard. Still others may need to be challenged or confronted. In general, though, most therapists believe that counseling helps us understand thoughts and feelings about ourselves that we have not previously fully recognized. Sigmund Freud referred to this process as making that which is unconscious conscious. I trust that clients know deep down what should be talked about in therapy and that they mostly need help knowing how to access these thoughts and feelings in order to realize what it is they want and need from others and their lives. My approach is eclectic or integrative, but I use many behavioral and cognitive-behavioral approaches in my work. I am particularly interested in evidenced-based and best practices approaches to treatment and so I continually challenge myself to learn newly refined techniques and approaches and provide each patient with the best of my learning over 30 years of practice in multiple settings. I am humanistic and client centered as well and and have found that it often helps patients to know that their therapist is a regular, genuine and authentic individual who is dedicated to my profession and feels that much can be learned from the relationship of therapy. Many clients come to a therapist’s office because they are struggling in their relationships. Paying attention to how your relationship develops in the office can help you understand how really important social interactions in your life outside of the therapeutic relationship actually work.
Welcome to Encourage-ment Counseling for Connection, Healing, and Change At Encourage-ment, we help individuals and couples find hope, strength, and clarity through compassionate, expert care. Our practice specializes in three key areas: couples counseling, gambling addiction recovery, and trauma-informed therapy. Life can present challenges that feel isolating and overwhelming. Whether you're struggling in your relationship, battling the cycle of gambling, or working through the impact of trauma, we’re here to walk with you—at your pace, with respect and empathy. **Our Areas of Focus:** * **Couples Counseling** We support couples facing conflict, communication challenges, trust issues, or emotional disconnection. Our work centers on helping partners rebuild connection, improve understanding, and create stronger, healthier relationships. In addition to resolving immediate relational concerns, we help couples navigate the natural seasons of life—including marriage, career changes, aging, and loss. We also provide support for parenting challenges, helping couples stay united as they raise children, balance responsibilities, and manage stress. Whether you're new in your relationship or decades in, our goal is to help you grow together with resilience and compassion. * **Gambling Addiction Recovery** Gambling struggles can feel hidden and difficult to talk about. We provide a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore the emotional roots of gambling, develop healthier coping strategies, and rebuild your sense of control. In our work together, we focus on practical tools such as budgeting, financial planning, and managing urges to gamble. Just as important, we support clients in rebuilding trust with loved ones, repairing the emotional and relational damage often caused by gambling behavior. Healing includes both personal accountability and restoring connection—and we’re here to guide you through every step of that process. **Trauma-Informed Therapy** Trauma affects how we feel, think, and relate to others. We offer gentle, focused support using evidence-based approaches—including Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)—to help clients process distressing memories and sensations in a way that promotes rapid, lasting relief. ART uses guided imagery and eye movements to shift how trauma is stored in the brain, helping clients feel calmer, more in control, and better able to move forward. At Encourage-ment, we believe real healing begins when you feel seen, heard, and encouraged. Whether you're navigating relationship difficulties, addiction recovery, or the effects of trauma, we’re here to help you move forward—one step at a time.
