My approach centers on building self-discovery, through the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and behaviors. This internal world influences anxiety, depression, mood stability and reactivity. Therapy is where you can take the time to get to know more about yourself and ways to build helpful self-care practices. Many of my clients come to therapy struggling with persistent self-doubt, critical inner narratives, as well as the weight of expectations around identity, achievement, and emotional expression. These expectations can distort our sense of self worth, making it challenging to define and meet important self-growth goals. Together, we can work to intuitively explore what may be contributing to these challenges, current belief systems and behavioral patterns. I value a conversational approach to therapy, where you can feel open in expressing your thoughts, concerns and internal narratives in order to ultimately choose if they are still serving you or it may be time for change. How we speak to ourselves matters; it not only affects our mood but also our motivation, behavior, and ability to connect with others. When we cultivate an intentional internal dialogue that aligns with our values we can begin to unlock a greater sense of autonomy and capability. This process leads to lessened anxiety, greater self confidence and acceptance.

In therapy, we can discuss your current concerns and explore your previous experiences in order for you increase your self understanding and feel a sense of choice and agency in your life. I aim to provide a safe, genuine and empathic environment while utilizing our relationship to facilitate collaborative and meaningful change. Together, we can work to increase your emotional coping skills and help you overcome your current barriers. In the role of therapist, my initial priority is creating the safety and familiarity that is crucial to do real work together. I look at the therapeutic process as an opportunity to work with the person coming to me in need of support, and tackle their issues as a team. I bring a nonjudgmental, open-minded approach to my clients and emphasize the importance of clients feeling secure enough to say anything they need to in the space we curate together. My approach has an emphasis on self-compassion and becoming in tune with your emotions and body. In today’s world, it is easier than ever to become disconnected from your body and feelings. My hope is that we can work together to reintegrate your inner wisdom to your conscious level of awareness.
Choosing to start therapy is an important step, and we believe that finding the right therapist for you is essential in this process. Our hope is that you feel welcomed, valued, and safe to explore yourself in our calm and nurturing environment.
I'm Dr. Akeisha Rivera and I'm a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). I specialize in helping couples overcome infidelity, affairs, constant fighting, a lack of intimacy, and emotional disconnection. I do this by helping you communicate in a safe, nonjudgmental space and by providing you with tools to help you thrive within your relationship. My goal is to help you become the best possible version of yourself so that you and your partner can rebuild your bond and make it stronger than ever before. As your therapist, I will be there with you every step of the way. You can trust me to be fully engaged in your process and growth. Through years of experience, I know that no problem is too great to overcome. I do this work because of my genuine desire to help couples connect so that life's challenges only bring them closer. Let's talk about how I can help your relationship thrive.
Do you feel exhausted from trying to hold everything together? Maybe you have always been the responsible one or the person others rely on. You pushed through stress, anxiety, and family challenges because you felt like you had to. At first it seemed manageable, but now the pressure feels heavier and harder to carry. On the outside you appear confident and put together. Inside you might feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or worried that you cannot keep this up much longer. Wanting a break does not mean you are failing. It means you are human. I’m Sara, and I help students who are tired of perfectionism, constant pressure, and the weight of expectations. I work with people who want healthier relationships, better communication, and support as they process past experiences that still affect them today. My background includes ACT, CBT, TF-CBT, Brainspotting, and group therapy training, which allows me to tailor our work to what you need. In our sessions, you can expect a warm, honest, and real environment where you can finally let your guard down. I show up as myself so you can feel comfortable showing up as yourself too. You deserve a space where you can put down the pressure you have been carrying and focus on feeling grounded, supported, and hopeful. I am here to help you get there.
Due to licensing rules, I can only work with clients in New York State! Hi, my name is Alia and I became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor after my own experience being diagnosed with bipolar one disorder during my undergrad college years. I try to take what I have liked working counselors over the years (being listened to, validated & empathized with), what has not worked for me (those who gave preachy, simplistic advice...) and incorporate the helpful counseling styles into my practice. My area of specialty emerged while I was in graduate school. I had the honor of working with Survivors of Domestic Violence. I also have spent several years working as an Outpatient Behavioral Health Therapist at a hospital assisting clients heal from depression, anxiety, mood disorders and trauma. COVID-19 hasn't been easy on our generation, and especially not for students. I am noticing an increase in social anxiety and overall questioning of the meaning of life. I remain committed to the mental health field, however, and hope you reach out to see if I'm a good match for you! NEW: I have recently started a therapy blog! Life can be a constant struggle filled with challenges and difficult times. Therapy can help in navigating through the peaks and valleys of life. I strive to work with my clients to create a plan to live a happier and healthier life. Through processing emotions, focusing on the positive while exploring the negative, and utilizing positive coping techniques, a healthier, stronger mind can be formed. Your mental health is equally as important as your physical health, which is why I aim to provide a judgment free space for my clients to exercise their mind. While recognizing that you are the expert of your own life, I want to help you in achieving your therapeutic goals through a Person-Centered and Cognitive Behavioral approach.
