Therapists for college students near New York, NY
I have many years experience helping people with their emotional problems. I work with individuals of all ages from adolescence to old age. My approach is listening-focused. No two persons who have come to see me have had the same issues and struggles to contend with. So what is needed is close, attentive listening so I can know how you can most benefit from my help. Many patients prefer to focus on the here and now problems they feel most immediately. But others want to explore their root causes in earlier relations and problems. I try to tailor my practice to work at either or both these levels of intensity.
As a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with more than 16 years of healthcare experience, my practice is rooted in patient-centered, holistic, trauma-informed care for people at every stage of life. Whether you're navigating stress, anxiety, or mood disorders; facing a major life transition; working through grief or trauma; or exploring questions of identity and relationships, including within the LGBTQ+ community, you'll find a space here that is welcoming, stigma free, and free of judgment. Building genuine rapport is at the heart of everything I do. When you walk through the door, my hope is that you feel safe enough to share your story. Consider me a true collaborator in your care. Together, we'll work toward self-discovery and the kind of mental health that feels meaningful to you. No two people are alike, which is why my approach is individualized, collaborative, and holistic. Showing up for you exactly where you are, without preconceptions or pressure, is something I hold as a core commitment. Partnering with you to define your goals and build a path toward them is what I find most fulfilling about this work. In our sessions, you can expect a warm, calm, and nonjudgmental environment where your comfort comes first. Drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) alongside humanistic and integrative methods, I bring together techniques from multiple approaches to create a personalized treatment plan that fits your unique personality and needs. The result is care that feels less like a formula and more like a conversation. Long before I became a psychiatric nurse practitioner, people in my life would come to me when they needed someone to listen. Friends, family members, and loved ones often said that talking with me helped them through difficult moments. That feedback stayed with me and quietly shaped the direction my career would take. As my healthcare career evolved, so did my appreciation for the depth of emotional support that patients need alongside medical care. Walking alongside people through medical crises, serious illness, and grief deepened my commitment to empathetic, whole-person care and led me to the work I do today. Warmth and a nurturing presence are things I bring to every appointment. When I'm not in the office, you'll often find me outside, walking through nature or settling into a meditation or yoga practice. Creativity is a big part of how I recharge too. Drawing, painting, writing poetry, and music all play a role in my life outside of work. As an amateur musician, I enjoy singing, learning keyboard, and playing flute, less for performance and more for the joy and relaxation it brings.
The Mindflow Psych approach to mental wellness is understanding that mind, body, spirit, and environment operate as a whole. We am dedicated to creating a non-judgmental space where you can feel supported and empowered to make decisions together on your treatment plan. We have experience with people of diverse lived experiences in both community mental health and private practice. I have a special interest working with those exploring their racial/ethnic identity, sexual identity, and gender identity. I work with those struggling with anxiety, depression, mood instability, OCD, sleep disturbances, trauma and ADHD. Hi, I’m Kelsey (she/her). As a psychotherapist, I encourage open communication and reflection, creating a space where we can navigate your unique experiences, including anxiety, relationship patterns, self-exploration, disordered eating, obsessive thoughts, family dynamics, and life transitions. With a foundation in a relational approach, I view the therapeutic relationship as an essential tool for exploring relational patterns, attachment, and opportunities for healing and change. I have a passion for supporting individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community and warmly welcome clients of all identities, recognizing how gender, race, sexuality, and privilege shape our mental health and experiences. My approach is holistic, trauma-focused and person-centered, drawing from Psychodynamic Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) Model, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and somatic work. I’m looking forward to getting to know you as we work together.
As a licensed Mental Health Counselor, my passion is in collaborating with clients to help strengthen their personal strategies and to find a life worth living. I believe that with the right tools and motivation, my clients are able to manage the difficulties that life has given them. Clients learn to trust themselves and develop ways to learn coping skills and increase their sense of self-worth through continued practice in our sessions. The idea to go into psychology was sparked by my own experiences with depression, grief, interpersonal conflicts, and trauma. In college, I went to a therapist and learned to cope with the challenges that I had been facing since my adolescence. As a result, I was completely enamored with learning about how the mind works and why people behave the way they do. I believe that with my own personal experiences, I can create a safe and non-judgmental environment for my clients, so that they may grow and heal. In my practice, I utilize an integrative approach, and holistic, person oriented theories. I am certified in Dialectical behavioral therapy and specialize working with personality disorders, interpersonal difficulties, trauma, and work with other mental health conditions as well.
Hi! I’m Rachel Wolk (she/her), a neurodiverse, LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist. I’m passionate about supporting folks through anxiety, complex trauma, Autism, and ADHD. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh and a Master of Social Work from Columbia University, where I specialized in Advanced Clinical Practice. I'm also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy. My approach is grounded in trauma-informed, relationship-based work. I often integrate sensory and somatic interventions, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Coherence Therapy to support the mind-body-environment connection. I believe in honoring each person’s unique nervous system and lived experience, and I strive to create a space where all parts of you feel seen and supported. While I do offer in-person sessions, we’ll likely meet virtually to better accommodate the flexibility needed for a college schedule. That said, I’m always open to making exceptions on a case-by-case basis if in-person sessions feel essential to creating a safe and secure therapeutic space for you. If you have any questions, feel free to send me an email, I'm happy to set up a free 15-minute consultation call!
You aren’t alone in your mental health struggles. As a mental health counselor for LGBTQIA folks, young adults, adults, and teens, I provide a gentle and collaborative environment for navigating issues relating to trauma, anxiety, depression, body image and shame, self-esteem, ADHD, OCD, identity exploration, family and life conflicts, low motivation, and emotional dysregulation. At all times, I believe in teamwork and accountability, remaining open to feedback and supportive in working toward your goals. I'm especially passionate about the concept of neuroplasticity (the brain's capacity to change, adapt, and form new neural pathways or ways of thinking) and humanism, which suggests we all naturally want to heal and self-actualize. I look forward to empowering your brain’s healing journey, fostering your personal growth, and navigating life's challenges in our work together. I'm dedicated to providing a safe, nonjudgmental space for vulnerability and self-expression. That’s why I take a warm, collaborative, and humorous approach to care, tailoring treatment to your unique needs. Your plan may include Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), psychodynamic/relational, and somatic techniques to explore different aspects of yourself, practice coping strategies, regulate your nervous system, and develop a new relationship with difficult thoughts and feelings. My own mental health challenges, alongside supporting family members through their mental illnesses, shaped my path toward therapeutic care. These personal experiences deepened my commitment to destigmatizing mental illness and demystifying therapy by providing accessible care that makes people feel seen and heard. I bring this anti-oppressive and culturally responsive perspective to my practice now, ensuring care that is grounded in the understanding that cultural expectations, intergenerational patterns, shame, and systemic barriers can deeply influence how safe and comfortable someone feels in therapy. In my free time, I love immersing myself in the great outdoors, from swimming to camping beneath the stars. I also enjoy the arts: water coloring, watching a fantastic show or movie, and crafting!
Are you navigating life between two worlds, balancing family and cultural expectations with your own sense of self? Perhaps you're a child of immigrants, first-generation, or someone far from home asking deeper questions about who you are and where you belong. I'm a bilingual (English/Tagalog) psychotherapist specializing in depth-oriented, Jungian therapy. I work with Filipino Americans, Asian Americans, immigrants, and first-generation individuals doing the meaningful, sometimes difficult work of building an authentic identity, one that honors where they come from while making room for who they are becoming. My approach is exploratory and relational. Drawing from Jungian psychology, psychodynamic therapy, and somatic awareness, I work with the unconscious patterns, cultural conditioning, and intergenerational stories that shape your present life. This includes dream work, active imagination, and close attention to the body's wisdom alongside the mind's. If this resonates, I'd love to connect. I offer a free 15-minute consultation — reach out and let's talk. I also offer Walk & Talk therapy for clients in the Cupertino and Silicon Valley area - sessions conducted outdoors in nature for those who find that movement supports their process. Ask me about it when you reach out.
Seeking care is a vulnerable experience, particularly during a season of life defined by constant transition. Whether you are navigating the acute pressures of a demanding program, processing a life-changing event, or grappling with an elusive sense of discontent while everyone else seems to have "figured it out," you don’t have to carry that weight in isolation. Much of our suffering derives from inner conflicts between different parts of ourselves: the part that feels driven to achieve versus the part that is profoundly exhausted; the part that seeks independence versus the part that still feels small and uncertain. Often, these tender parts stay hidden beneath the surface of academic rigor and social performance. In the high-pressure environment of college and graduate school, it is easy to feel siloed—locked within your own mind and the deepest, most quiet anxieties of your life. My approach offers you the freedom and flexibility to examine these various facets of yourself. Together, we will work toward a greater self-understanding that allows you to move through your studies and your life with a renewed sense of fulfillment and agency.
Hello! I work with students who are struggling with anxiety, depression, perfectionism and self-esteem, procrastination, relationship difficulties, or feeling the impact of past experiences in their daily lives. My style is warm, gentle, and honest, with appropriate humor. I'm happy to provide short-term or long-term therapy depending on your goals. I offer telehealth appointments Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and I'm available for in-person sessions on Thursdays in Midtown Manhattan.
As a Licensed Master Social Worker, I’m drawn to working with thoughtful, self-aware individuals who are struggling internally, whether with overthinking, perfectionism, people-pleasing, loneliness, or a persistent sense of not fully belonging. You may feel overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself, or caught in patterns that no longer feel sustainable. You may be navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, identity exploration, or a major life transition. Whatever brings you here, our work together won't stop at symptom relief. My goal is to create an environment where you feel comfortable showing up as you are, without judgment, pressure, or the need to have everything figured out. This collaborative approach is designed to help you feel more grounded, more authentic, and safer within yourself, so you can engage with life in a fuller and more meaningful way. Beginning therapy takes real courage, and I don't take that lightly. My hope is that you leave each session feeling less alone in your experiences, and more able to approach yourself with curiosity, compassion, and honesty over time. Therapy, at its best, is a space not only for symptom relief but also for deeper self-understanding and more meaningful connection with yourself and others. My approach is relational and psychodynamic at its core, drawing on Mindfulness-based practices, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT)-informed methods when they're useful. What that looks like in practice is a conversation that moves at your pace, exploring both present-day concerns and the deeper relational history, patterns, and dynamics shaping the way you understand yourself and move through the world. Together, we may look at questions of identity and belonging, the parts of yourself that seek connection or protection, and the emotional themes running quietly beneath the surface. Working with me tends to feel collaborative, reflective, and warm. My style is curious rather than clinical: I pay close attention not just to what you're going through, but to the larger patterns that may exist underneath it. Informed by an interest in psychoanalysis, mindfulness, and the ways language and storytelling help us make sense of our lives, I approach every person through an intersectional and culturally aware lens, recognizing how identity, family systems, culture, and larger social forces shape how we relate and move through the world. Every approach is tailored to your unique needs and goals, balancing insight-oriented exploration with practical support wherever it's helpful. My path toward becoming a therapist grew out of a deep curiosity about people, relationships, and the ways we learn to adapt to difficult experiences. Over time, I became especially interested in the inner worlds people carry beneath the surface – the parts of ourselves that often remain unspoken, misunderstood, or difficult to put into words. Having lived between different cultures myself, I am especially curious about the ways people search for belonging and make sense of what it means to feel at home, whether that home is found in a place, a language, a relationship, a community, or within themselves. These experiences deepened my belief that healing often begins when we feel genuinely understood and less alone in the parts of ourselves we may have carried quietly for a long time. I believe there is something deeply healing about being able to explore your inner world in the presence of someone who is truly listening and trying to understand. In my free time, I enjoy running, yoga, meditation, strength training, hiking, reading, and traveling. I love long walks through New York City, discovering new coffee shops and restaurants, attending lectures and theater performances, and having thoughtful conversations with friends. I’m most drawn to spaces that feel thoughtful, creative, and intellectually alive.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, you're not alone. As a psychodynamic psychotherapist, I offer a safe and confidential space to explore these challenges and uncover the underlying patterns that may be impacting your well-being. Together, we can delve into your past experiences, understand your current emotional landscape, and build the resilience needed to thrive during this pivotal time in your life.
I am a person-centered Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) specializing in anxiety and depression. Working with young adults and adults, I help you navigate life's various challenges while meeting you where you’re at, which allows me to be a supportive and nonjudgmental partner in care. I look forward to supporting you as you work toward the goals you want to achieve together. In our time together, you can expect a warm, understanding, and attentive environment, where I use an integrative and tailored approach along with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you overcome and navigate hardship. My approach is empathetic, culturally competent, and collaborative, as I’m passionate about helping you navigate life's challenges with support. My path to becoming a therapist began with the passing of my mother during my early adolescence, alongside having a negative experience in therapy of my own. This time of my life deepened my commitment to providing empathetic and compassionate care, and it's part of what allows me to bring a unique perspective to each session. In my free time, I love to travel and explore new places.
I offer a compassionate and supportive therapeutic space where clients can safely explore all aspects of themselves. While healing is ultimately a personal process, working with an attuned and understanding therapist can provide the containment and trust needed for meaningful change. I support individuals seeking therapy for emotional healing, self-understanding, and personal growth, helping clients gently engage with experiences that may feel difficult to face alone. My integrative approach draws on psychoanalytic psychotherapy, alongside somatic and mindfulness-based practices. I support individuals who may feel overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or disconnected from themselves or others. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, cultural identity challenges, life transitions, and the lasting impact of past experiences. I believe meaningful therapy emerges through a strong therapeutic relationship grounded in trust, respect, and genuine curiosity. My work supports clients in moving beyond survival patterns toward greater emotional freedom, resilience, and a more connected way of living.
Madeline offers therapy that meets you wherever you are on your journey. She supports individuals who are seeking to heal their relationship with their bodies, manage anxiety or overwhelm, or navigate transitions and identity shifts with greater clarity and compassion. Her work often resonates with clients who have experienced a sense of disconnection from their bodies—whether due to trauma, chronic stress, or societal pressures—and are ready to cultivate a kinder, more grounded relationship with themselves. Madeline also works with couples who wish to deepen communication, restore connection, and strengthen emotional intimacy. Across her work, she emphasizes nervous system regulation, emotional resilience, and cultivating a sense of inner safety—so that clients can move through life with more ease, authenticity, and self-trust.
I help people overcome their personal psychological barriers so they can live a more meaningful, authentic life. I provide compassionate, holistic care to all of my clients, supporting them through challenges in relationships, major life transitions, grief and loss, acculturation difficulties, and uncertainty about their path forward in life. I have particular expertise in helping young adults, including college students and those who recently graduated. I worked for several years in college counseling centers and have built on this specialization in private practice, developing a deep understanding of the challenges and uncertainties inherent in this phase of life and how to guide patients through them. I also have considerable experience with those struggling with traumatic or abusive relationships—whether during childhood or as an adult—as well as other forms of trauma. I’m also extremely effective with clients who—short of trauma per se— had or are currently experiencing difficult relationships with parents or other family members. In addition, I have substantial background in helping people who identify as LGBTQ+. That includes people who are just beginning to think about themselves outside of a hetero-normative framework as well as people who started that process earlier in life. Though I have specific expertise in these areas, I welcome all patients. I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University, and have a breadth of experience in many settings ranging from college counseling centers to inpatient hospital units. This equips me to help patients from diverse backgrounds, life experiences and identities who may struggle with a wide range of emotional concerns. I currently work at The Flatiron Center for Psychotherapy, where I tailor my person-centered, humanistic, trauma-informed approach to craft the most effective treatment for each client.
As a licensed therapist, I am dedicated to empowering adults and families of all backgrounds and cultures in navigating life challenges. These include anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, grief and loss, emotional struggles, trauma and PTSD, panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and I believe healing happens when we feel seen, supported, and safe to explore growth and emotions in our own time. To achieve this, I take a strength-based, compassionate, and practical approach, allowing me to equip you with effective tools and skills to realize lasting mental wellness. Working together, you can expect an encouraging and nonjudgemental environment that uses evidence-based methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP). My goal is to help you develop healthy coping skills, deepen self-awareness, and create meaningful change through compassionate and collaborative care that is tailored to your unique goals and pace. I believe in the power of connection, collaboration, and evidence-based therapy, equipping me to be an effective and inspiring therapist. I look forward to walking alongside you as you build insight, resilience, and confidence in your journey to healing and achieving your goals. Having spent four years in the social work field, I saw first-hand how trauma impacts individuals and families, as well as how healing transforms lives. This diverse experience fueled my desire to become a therapist by deepening my passion to provide effective, empowering therapy that addresses the root causes of mental health struggles. I believe every person is capable of healing, which is why I bring empathy, curiosity, and genuine belief in each person’s potential to every session. When I'm not in the office, I’m most often spending time with friends or family. And when I’m not with loved ones, I enjoy being active – playing the piano, cooking, or discovering hidden gems in NYC!
Starting college is a major transition, and it can bring a mix of excitement, pressure, stress, and uncertainty. You may find yourself feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure of how to navigate relationships, academics, and the growing expectations of independence. I work with students to better understand their emotional experiences, build confidence, and develop more effective ways of managing stress. Together, we focus on helping you feel more grounded, more connected, and better able to navigate both your inner world and your relationships. I am also licensed to provide comprehensive in-person testing. This may be for your personal understanding of yourself or it could be to support applications for accommodations for academic work at your college or for standardized testing (e.g. GRE, LSAT, MCAT etc).
As a mental health counselor dedicated to helping patients cultivate clarity and confidence, I specialize in treating children, adolescents, young adults, and adults. My goal is to help you navigate anxiety, trauma, depression, burnout, life transitions, and/or identity explorations so you live your life fully and authentically. I believe that you are the expert on your life and that everyone is capable of growth and change, which helps me be a supportive and motivational partner to you in the therapy room. I look forward to being a part of your transformative growth in our work together. I’m passionate about helping you know yourself better, increase your psychological flexibility, and find your inner strength. We achieve this together in a collaborative and empathetic environment that incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to guide you in identifying and understanding your core beliefs and patterns, and becoming aware of how these are serving or not serving you. My style is eclectic, collaborative, and person-centered so that care is tailored to your unique needs. My career began with the desire to be a teacher, a path that inspired me to help people learn more about themselves and how to interact with the world around them, not just within school subjects. This experience, along with time spent working with children, adolescents, and families who are or who have been involved in the legal, justice, and child welfare systems, led me to pursue counseling. In my role now as a therapist, I’m committed to using the knowledge and wisdom gained throughout my journey by providing evidence-based mental health care that meets people where they’re at through warmth and humor. I enjoy filling my free time with friends, family, and loved ones. You’ll also often find me scrapbooking and crocheting, or out and about going for walks, spending time outside, and listening to live music.
