Because no two people are the same, your care at Connecting Heals is designed to honor exactly who you are. You will find a safe, culturally responsive, and explicitly LGBTQ+ affirming space that celebrates your unique identity and neurotype, rather than expecting you to fit into a traditional or neurotypical box. To ensure your healing journey is accessible, you will also be met with flexible financial options, including sliding scales and insurance advocacy, to help remove barriers to your care. Ultimately, your therapy is built around your individual lived experiences, empowering you to heal and navigate the world as your most authentic self.

Welcome! Transitions are rarely as "seamless" as they look on social media. Whether you are a first-generation college student navigating a system that wasn’t built for you, or a member of the LGBTQIA+ community looking for a truly affirming space to land, I am here to support you. Why work with me? As a therapist with lived experience as both a first-gen graduate and a member of the queer community, I understand the "double-lens" many students carry. You won't have to spend your sessions educating me on the stakes of a "B-" grade when your family is counting on you, or explaining why coming out feels different when your campus and home life collide. I provide a space where you don't have to "code-switch" or pick one part of your identity over the other. In our work together, we will: Navigate "The First-Gen Weight": Unpack the imposter syndrome and achievement guilt that often come with being the first in your family to pursue a degree. Explore Identity with Ease: Provide a grounded, queer-affirming environment where your identity is celebrated, not just "tolerated." Build a "Chosen Home": Move past just "surviving" the semester and start building an internal sense of safety and belonging. College is a massive life shift—a pressure cooker for anxiety and depression. You don't have to figure it out alone. My clients are often high-achieving students who feel like 'outsiders' in academic spaces. They are looking for a therapist who 'gets it'—someone who understands the intersection of cultural expectations, queer identity, and the unique pressures of the first-generation experience. I know that taking the first step can feel overwhelming—especially if you’ve been taught to 'just push through' or if you’re worried about whether this space is truly for you. My approach is informed by years of experience "on the inside" as a public school teacher and guidance counselor. I’ve seen firsthand how the educational system can both support and fail students, especially those from marginalized backgrounds. This means I don’t just offer emotional support; I understand the actual logistics of academic burnout, the maze of campus resources, and the specific exhaustion of being a student in today's world. You don't need to have it all figured out before we talk. Whether you have a specific goal or just a heavy feeling you can't quite name, you are welcome here. I offer a free, 15-minute consultation call so we can see if we’re a good match—no pressure, just a chance to connect. Check out my website and click CONTACT ME to send me a brief message. I usually respond within 24–48 hours, and we can take it one small step at a time from there. Smiles:) Melissa Rappaport, MA, LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor)

Getting to know yourself—who you truly are—can be one of the most challenging yet empowering experiences in life, especially if you're someone who’s been told you think too much, feel too much, or just are too much in general. If that sounds like you, then we should definitely talk. Clients often come to me because they’ve been misunderstood or boxed in elsewhere. Many of them are figuring out how to live outside the lines: queer folks, neurodivergent folks, people in non-traditional relationships, or people who just never quite felt “normal,” whatever that means. As a neurodivergent queer therapist, I’m right there with you. With roots in narrative therapy and trauma-informed work, I bring a client-led, conversational approach. I enjoy helping individuals and relationships see and make sense of the ways their pasts show up in their present, especially those navigating formative trauma, major identity or life changes, or relationship patterns that feel stuck on repeat. Therapy is supposed to be the place where you get to show up as your full, messy self without judgment. My job is to help you feel safe and grounded enough to do just that. If you’re ready to take the first step towards finding your way back to yourself, I’d love to walk alongside you. Please reach out for a free consultation!

College and young adult years can be both exciting and overwhelming. Many students and young adults find themselves managing anxiety, depression, or grief while also trying to keep up with academic demands, relationships, work, and expectations from family or themselves. Feeling stressed, burned out, unmotivated, or emotionally drained does not mean you are failing — it means you are human and navigating a lot at once. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. I work with college students, young adults, and adolescents using a client-centered, goal-oriented approach. Therapy is a collaborative process where we focus on what feels most pressing for you and develop practical strategies to help you cope more effectively with stress, emotions, and life transitions. I support individuals experiencing: * Anxiety and depression related to academic pressure, performance stress, and major life changes * Grief and loss, including losses that occur during college or early adulthood * Emotional overwhelm, burnout, difficulty with focus, and feeling “stuck” or disconnected * Relationship and family stress, especially as roles, independence, and boundaries shift * Autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, and behavioral concerns in adolescents and young adults I use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and stress-reduction techniques to help clients build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and gain clarity during challenging seasons. Therapy should feel supportive, nonjudgmental, and empowering. Whether this is your first time seeking counseling or you are returning to therapy, my goal is to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported as you work toward balance, confidence, and improved well-being.

I work with adults who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or not quite like themselves, often dealing with anxiety, low mood, or a lack of motivation. Many of the people I work with are navigating new life transitions, health concerns, relationship challenges, or stress related to work or school. My style is warm and collaborative, meeting you where you are and working alongside you. I take a holistic approach to therapy, getting to know you as a whole person, not just a set of symptoms. We’ll explore how things like emotions, relationships, physical health, sleep, and daily stressors all interact to affect your wellbeing. I draw on cognitive, behavioral, motivational, and mindfulness-based strategies. Together, we’ll get to the root of what’s contributing to how you’re feeling, build skills you can use in your everyday life, develop healthier ways of responding to difficult thoughts and emotions, and take small, consistent steps toward what matters most to you. It takes courage to reach out, and wherever you’re starting from, you’re welcome here. Therapy with me is a space where you can feel supported, understood, and accepted, while also working toward where you want to be. If you’re feeling stuck, we can work through it together.

I have years of experience with clients with disabilities, autism, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, and trauma. I specialize in supporting high-achieving professionals—especially those in academia or the helping profession (doctors, nurses, therapists, pastors)—who grapple with perfectionism, difficulty setting boundaries, codependency, and the challenge of prioritizing their own needs amidst the many demands of their personal and professional lives. As an immigrant, I bring a rich, cross-cultural perspective to therapy and a deep appreciation for how culture shapes identity, relationships, and mental health. Many of my clients are navigating complex intersections of cultural expectations, academic roles, and personal values. In addition to my clinical practice, I am a professor and active researcher. My academic work focuses on interpersonal trauma and its impact on relationships and meaning-making. This dual identity as both clinician and scholar informs my approach: deeply reflective, integrative, and grounded in both science and lived experience. I work exclusively via Telehealth with adult clients residing in GA, MI, and TX. I believe that meaningful change begins with a strong therapeutic relationship—one that offers both safety and challenges patterns by providing direct and honest feedback. If you're ready to invest in yourself and your well-being, I invite you to reach out.

Together, we'll explore your strengths, develop practical coping skills, and work toward creating a life that feels more balanced, meaningful, and aligned with your goals and values. I specialize in adult depth-oriented Relational Psychoanalytic psychotherapy and a highly individualized approach to neuropsychological assessment for ADHD and Autism. As relational beings, we are instinctively wired for connection. It is within the context of relationship that we discover our potential for transformative change. I view therapy as a collaborative process of uncovering this potential by cultivating a deep, trusting relationship that becomes the vehicle for self-exploration and change. As a neurodivergent psychologist, I approach my work with a genuine sense of humility to create a space that is inclusive and affirming to all. I also feel that it is imperative to provide therapy that goes beyond merely treating symptoms. This is why I take a depth-oriented approach in order for us to discover the root causes of suffering, work through barriers, and move toward meaningful, long-lasting life changes. Drawing on a strengths-based approach, I customize my sessions to align with the uniqueness of each client. I believe in the importance of honoring the developmental, biological, sociocultural, and interpersonal parts of yourself to assist in the healing process. Using this comprehensive approach to treatment, I recognize that true well-being encompasses the integration of mental, emotional, and physical aspects of health.
