Therapists for college students near Ann Arbor, MI
I offer virtual (online) sessions only at this time. Some sessions can be made by appointment if openings are not noted on my calendar - just ask! Sometimes the anxiety and depression that come with life changes, trauma, relationship issues or job stress can be distracting and affect our ability to thrive. When people work through their thoughts and feelings, they often report feeling more clarity and a deeper sense of vitality and purpose. You can expect to be gently challenged to explore your experiences in a safe, kind and private space when you work with me. I've helped people find more confident self expression in decision-making and relationships. I've also had people report performing better in sports, school or the arts. Many people find themselves making better, more positive behavioral changes as they feel better emotionally. I use an eclectic mix of theories, often including psychodynamic work, in therapy to include the entire person: mind, body and soul. I try to educate and empower people to use practical tools they learn in therapy in realistic, lifelong ways. It takes courage to be vulnerable and acknowledge you'd like some help along this journey. I know because I've been there myself. Take the first step and I'll meet you there.

Life presents challenges to everyone, regardless of their circumstances. You often have no control of the challenges that come your way. Your only control is your response, which creates your experience. As a solutions-focused therapist, I collaborate with you to understand the power of your thoughts, and remind you that you have it within yourself to take back control of your emotional health. You are your own expert, and you have an inner vision of what you want to see happen in your life. I will strive to help you develop coping skills, awaken your resiliency and help you to change the long-standing negative perceptions and behavior patterns that prevent you from achieving your inner vision and enjoying your life.
Hello and welcome! I’m Jessica, a therapist committed to providing a supportive and inclusive space for children, teens, and adults. My goal is to offer a safe and affirming environment where you feel heard, understood, and empowered in your journey toward healing and self-growth. I support concerns like anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationships, life transitions, disability-related issues, and identity exploration. Using an integrative approach, including CBT, Solution-Focused, and Person-Centered techniques, I tailor therapy to your needs. I also recognize how culture, systemic barriers, and accessibility impact mental health. Matthew serves as a companion to those who desire to experience healing, growth, and transformation in their pursuit of the full human experience. He works to offer a space of mutual, compassionate, and empathetic listening to the story your life is telling. Matthew believes that the opportunity to work with you is a sacred privilege, and is committed to discovering a shared process in therapy that honors who you are, your background, and your future path. Practicing therapy with Matthew may include focusing on developing tools and practices to help manage emotions and thoughts, support in healing from past experiences, assistance developing healthier behavioral patterns, and/or establishing new values. However, there is not one therapeutic approach that fits all, which is why he works closely with you to identify your own needs and goals. Matthew is experienced primarily in individual work with adolescents and adults from all backgrounds and genders, in areas related to depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, interpersonal conflict, identity exploration, finding belonging, discovering purpose, grief/loss, and religious and spiritual questions [and related trauma]. Matthew graduated with a Masters in Social Work from Grand Valley State University in 2024. He is also a graduate of Kuyper College [BS], Cornerstone Theological Seminary [MA], and the Living School for Action and Contemplation. His experience living internationally and attending two universities in multi-cultural and inter-religious environments has deeply shaped how he engages individuals from a diversity of circumstances and backgrounds. Matthew’s professional and academic emphasis on restorative justice practices, as well as the unique cognitive, developmental, and mental health needs of people of all ages has deepened his ability to foster effective therapeutic environments and meaningful relationships with clients. Matthew believes that our growth as people cannot be manufactured or controlled, and is therefore something we can only cooperate with and bear witness to. For many, the journey and practice of our work together becomes an outcome in itself. While Matthew is a generalist when it comes to theoretical orientation, he naturally integrates person-centered, narrative, existential, humanist, mindfulness, and acceptance and commitment approaches.

I was a psychiatrist prior to immigrating to the United States in 2001. I currently work as rehabilitation counselor, case manager for people with disabilities and also work as a mental health counselor independently. I am a good listener and passionate about each individual's life journey, self-identity, acculturation, relationship and career path. When we sit down to listen, learn and share different perspectives, we unlock entirely new ways of seeing ourselves. Stress never goes away, but we can adjust how to react toward stress, build resilience for ourselves and healthy relationships with others.
