Therapists for college students near 02467
Many people come to therapy when they find themselves stuck repeating old patterns in relationships, work/school, or how they treat themselves. I'm a clinical psychologist with over 17 years of experience in helping people understand themselves more deeply so that change becomes possible. I approach people with a warm, collaborative, and exploratory style. If you're wanting to make sense of what's holding you back and move toward a more authentic, connected life, I can help. I welcome people of all identities and practice gender-affirming care. I use a psychodynamic approach that focuses on thoughts, feelings, and reactions that come up in your life and in our sessions. These moments often connect to deeper issues that we can then explore. I add cognitive-behavioral tools when helpful. Reaching out for therapy can feel vulnerable, and it's important to find a therapist you feel comfortable with. In our first sessions I offer an open space in which you can speak freely and we can get to know each other. If you're unsure whether we're a good fit, I'm happy to talk over phone or email about what you're looking for. I specialize in: • Anxiety and mood disorders • Relationship and interpersonal difficulties • Identity development and LGBTQ+ concerns • Life transitions • Young adults/adults seeking ongoing psychotherapy
Together, we can evaluate where your personality, coping skills, behaviors, lifestyle, and relational habits come together either to promote or impede your health. I am passionate about helping people who suffer from obsessions, compulsions, intrusive thoughts, avoidance, perfectionism, and other such unhelpful behaviors. My attention to all-around health is useful for working with those experiencing depression or problematic substance use. In addition, I enjoy supporting those experiencing relational or familial difficulties, romantic/sexual dissatisfaction, or working through issues at the intersection of gender and culture. Our work will be tailored to your unique goals and personality. Using interventions from ACT, ERP, CBT, and mindfulness, I will help you to act in sustainable, value-aligned ways by changing how you relate to your thoughts and emotions. Psychodynamic, existential, spiritual, and holistic health frameworks will provide additional support to our work together. With humor, insight, compassion, and skill, I can help you recognize where you get in your own way and establish new modes of being. Utilizing lived experience and a commitment to transparent, collaborative therapy, I provide a comfortable space for suffering to be aired out and reimagined. I would be honored to walk with you on your journey.

As of summer 2024, I am accepting new clients! Do you struggle with feeling a sense of belonging? Do you feel overwhelmed by life’s challenges and periods of change? I support individuals who are struggling to find themselves and feel happy in their life. I strive to bring a creative and fresh point of view to counseling and truly value the importance of understanding my clients to make an impact in their lives. My experience includes working with patients dealing with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and mild OCD. As a South Asian clinician, I believe in the importance of providing culturally sensitive evidence-based care to clients. If you've been feeling emotionally overwhelmed and it's affecting your sleep, work, or relationships, today is a good day to prioritize your well-being! I offer telehealth sessions throughout Massachusetts and Virginia, and in person walk-and-talk sessions in Charlottesville, VA. I specialize in helping young adults manage stress, anxiety, feelings of isolation, depression, or of not feeling good enough that can accompany being a college student in an academically rigorous environment. If your previous ways of dealing with challenges are not working, you find yourself drinking more than you used to, not sleeping well, or not feeling able to connect with your friends and family, this is a good time to get additional support. I take an active role in helping you sort out the best way to approach your challenges and teach you the foundations of mental health so you get back on track. Together we will explore the connection between how you live and how you feel, and identify the areas that feel out of balance. I take a comprehensive holistic approach to wellness because, for the people I work with, traditional talk therapy is often not enough. Our mental health is impacted by our environment, sleep, physical activity, what we eat, relationships, beliefs, thoughts, and behaviors–and I believe our mental health care should include these elements as components of the whole system. Evidence-based tools we may incorporate include meditation and somatic mind-body practices, techniques to work with thought patterns, interpersonal skills, and lifestyle interventions. Schedule a free 15-minute consultation to discuss if we are a good fit to help you achieve your goals!

I specialize in working with adults, children, and families who have been impacted by trauma. I have experience in helping clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, dissociation, relationship difficulties, emotional and behavioral dysregulation, and other issues that often result from adverse experiences and traumatic stress. I practice a collaborative approach which honors my clients’ lived experience and allows their needs and our understanding of the challenges they face to shape the specific approaches we use in our work together. I use an integrative style which blends skills-based, relational, and trauma-focused interventions. I see goodness-of-fit as central to the treatment process, and I believe an authentic and trusting relationship is essential to effective therapy. I strive to bring cultural humility to my work, and offer honesty, warmth, humor and compassion to foster the safe environment needed to allow my clients to achieve true growth, healing and transformation. I am a solution-focused therapist who meets clients where they are at with compassion, but also help to build strategies on how to cope with life. I incorporate a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing to help adolescents and young adults find healthy ways to work through stressors.
I enjoy working with students during this time of transition in their lives. Away from home, students must learn to structure their time to study and embark on a social life. This is a good opportunity to develop self-awareness and discover which relationships are best for them. Most of my clients are creative: writers, musicians, actors, artists, photography, and film. Many are introverts and/or highly sensitive people. I help them embrace their introversion as a gift rather than a liability.
As a psychologist with a passion for supporting young adults, I’ve had the privilege of working in college mental health settings at institutions like MIT, Tufts, and Boston College. My experience spans all ages, allowing me to connect with people at different life stages. I specialize in LGBTQ psychology and have a strong foundation in women’s and gender issues. I thrive on exploring cultural identities and helping individuals navigate their journeys, whether it’s related to gender and sexuality, race and ethnicity, or the challenges of emerging adulthood. I’m also highly skilled in treating anxiety and depression, and I have specialized training in postpartum mental health. My approach is rooted in psychodynamic therapy, viewed through a multicultural lens. I focus on understanding how your unique life experiences and intersecting identities shape your perspective. Together, we’ll create a collaborative relationship that fosters empowerment, builds skills, and promotes lasting change. As a first-generation, bilingual Armenian American woman, I deeply understand how cultural identities influence mental health and experiences of marginalization. I believe this insight is a powerful asset in our work together. Therapy can be a transformative journey, and I’m here to support your growth and healing every step of the way. <script src="https://thrivingcampus.com/verified.js?pid=26568"></script>
People come to therapy for a lot of reasons, but many feel like they need a change from how things are. Some don’t know what it is that needs to change, and they want more insight about what new roads they might try walking down. Others know exactly the changes they want to make in their lives, but they need a safe place to say it out loud to themselves, and they want help along the way. Some can’t change their situation and still yearn to be at peace. Regardless of what brought you to session, my goal during our time together is to work with you to help you identify obstacles in your path. My style is empowering, warm, and pragmatic. I work with people to manage their challenging experiences and connect with the life they want. I use cognitive behavior and acceptance and commitment therapy techniques. I provide comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations, and specialize in evaluating for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders and autism. I don't know you yet, but I'm excited to get to know you and help you come to a greater understanding of your values and getting you back to living the life you'd like to be living.
